The Importance of Exfoliating
Exfoliating is one of the most importance steps in your skin care routine, and yet so many people don’t do it! There are so many options out there, from exfoliating cleansers, to exfoliating pads and brushes, it’s easy to find some kind of exfoliation that can fit easily into your daily or weekly habits!
Why is exfoliating so important? Well a good exfoliator will help to not only remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, but also any congestion that builds up in the pores, they do this through the use of AHA’s (key word to look out for when shopping for an exfoliator, and stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acids). AHA’s are often either fruit acids or enzymes and lactic acid, and help to decongest the pores, evenly exfoliate the skin (leaving you with a more even skin tone), help to prevent blemishes and overall brighten the skin.
Remember exfoliators that are just abrasive and use exfoliating “beads” or “shell” are only working on the surface of the skin!
Exfoliation should be performed 1-2 times a week depending on your skin type, and remember if using a products with AHA’s an SPF is a must! For two great choices in exfoliator, try HydroPeptide daily exfoliating cleanser or HydroPeptide Anti-ageing Polish Plump and Peel, only available at Ellipse!
